US$ 173 million from ADB for road projects in Sri Lanka

Roads are developing constantly 
The Sri Lankan government has received a US$ 98 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to rehabilitate and improve around 120 kilometers of provincial roads in Sri Lanka's conflict affected North. Under the Northern Road Connectivity Project, the financial assistance from the ADB will be utilized to rehabilitate a nearly 11- kilometer segment on the Vavuniya - Horowpathana Road (A29), first 12.6 km segment of Medawchchiya Road, nearly 13 kilometers of Medawchchiya - Kebithgollewa Road, and 31 kilometers of Kebithgollewa - Padaviya Road.

Another loan of US$ 75 million will be obtained from ADB to develop the five access roads to the Southern Expressway under the Southern Road Connectivity Project. In addition to the five access roads, five highways linking to 3 interchanges of the Southern Expressway will be developed with the ADB assistance.The five roads under consideration are the 2.5 km road from Moratuwa to Piliyandala, 2.1 km road from Ratmalana to Mirihana, 112.4 km road from Southern Expressway to Matugama, 2.1 km segment from Kirulapona to Homagama and the 14.4 km segment from Kesbewa to Pokunuwita.
