Two more luxury trains to enhance transport facilities in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Railway is ready to import two more luxury trains to promote tourism and  for the benefit of the general public. Sri Lanka Railway Commercial Superintendent G.W.S. Sisira Kumara told media that the trains are to provide luxury transport facilities to both tourists and the general public  who can a reserve them for special tours in any area in the country, Each train can carry 220 passengers and they can be reserved from the Railway Commercial Superintendent's office.  This air-conditioned coach consists of comfortable seats with television and Wi-Fi services. Catering too has been included. 

Meanwhile, the first ever super luxury train service was launched  from Colombo to Kandy on May 27 this year. This fully air conditioned first class intercity train has fully rotating adjustable seats and electronic entertainment facilities. There are 10 compartments and each compartment includes 44 seats. The train runs only at weekends. It stops only at Ragama, Gampaha, Peradeniya Junction and Kandy. However, on the increasing of passengers’ demand, the train will run on regular basis. And also Sri Lanka Railways and the Ministry of Civil Aviation  jointly took steps to launch a luxury train service to carry tourists from Katunayake airport to tourist locations island wide last month.
